I was looking on ebay recently at prices for lightweight short carbon-aluminium stem: 3T, FSA etc and noticed a lot of new parts sourced directly from China or Taiwan that are listed at 1/4-1/2 international retail prices ie carbon clad 3T stem for $60us normally 4-5x that price. Googling counterfeit FSA or 3T, or Thompson etc it appears there are major issues with low quality counterfeits and FSA in particular have been successful taking legal action in Taiwan. So be warned....if the price is too good to be true, it is too good to be true. Ebay looks to be full of counterfeit items for sale in between LBShops trying to move stock on at higher prices.
I'm not to keen to pay silly money to save 40g, or buy something light, cheap and dangerous
There are counterfeit Pinarello Dogma frames about, Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels, FSA, 3T, Zipp, Thomson etc bars, seatposts and stems floating around........ scary when your life might be put at risk by using them. They can end up on the used market too when initial buyers flick them on probably unwittingly to the next user. Don't know if anyone in NZ Cyclist has been sucked in with dodgy stuff on ebay or trademe
